Gerard Martin backs Barcelona teammate for Ballon d’Or recognition | OneFootball

The defender Gerard Martin is one of the youngsters from La Masia who has made a permanent place in the FC Barcelona first team in recent times. Like Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, and Lamine Yamal, he is also a regular starter for Hansi Flick.

The Spaniard has grown a lot during the last few years, becoming an increasingly recognizable face both on and off the field. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Martin recently appeared in an interview with TV3 and talked about several aspects of his team and about his journey in professional football so far.

One of the more notable points from this interview was the defender’s opinion about the upcoming Ballon d’Or, as he backed his colleague in backline to get more recognition:

Martin was clear that he had not even dreamed of becoming such an important player for Barcelona:

“At that moment, you don’t even consider reaching 100 appearances; it seems a long way off.”

The defender also revealed that he himself was surprised by the change in his role on the field:

Regarding his personal life, the center-back assured that he has not changed much despite his increasing popularity:

“I try to remain the same Gerard I have always been. There have been some changes that are normal and obvious, but I don’t feel the need to change because things have gone well for me this way.”

Although he is not as prominent as Cubarsi or Yamal, there is no doubt that Gerard Martin has also achieved a lot in the last few years. Hopefully, he will continue to grow as a player going forward, and remain a part of this Barcelona team for years to come.
