On the pitch at Signal Iduna Park, Algerian international Ibrahim Mazza lit up Tuesday night by leading Bayer Leverkusen to a crucial 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup round of 16.
It was in the 34th minute that Mazza made the difference, netting a stunning goal that sent his team through to the quarter-finals. This decisive strike also allowed Leverkusen to exact revenge after their league defeat to Dortmund just days earlier (2-1).
The young Algerian's performance did not go unnoticed. Bayer Leverkusen's official page paid tribute to their creative midfielder by publishing an edit comparing him to Argentine legend Diego Maradona, even bestowing upon him the nickname "Mazzadona"—a moniker that quickly set social media alight and won over the fans.
Ibrahim Mazza is thus confirming his superb form this season with Leverkusen. Already with 4 goals and 2 assists in 18 appearances, he is among the candidates for both Player of the Month and Young Player of the Month awards in the Bundesliga for November.
