Barcelona are hot on the heels of Nico Williams as they are presently seen as the frontrunner for his signature this summer.

Claiming that Barcelona would benefit from signing Nico, German legend and 1990 Ballon d’Or winner Lothar Matthaus expressed his eagerness to see Nico Williams in a Barcelona jersey, recreating his partnership with Lamine Yamal at the club.

The former German player and coach refers to Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal as “stars.”

He acknowledges that their performances with the Spanish national team have both “surprised and impressed” him, which is why he wishes for them to be teammates at the Catalan club.

“I would love for my friend Hansi Flick to be able to call up not only Yamal to Barça this season, but also his dream player Williams, who only costs €60 million due to an exit clause,” he said via MARCA.

Yamal and Nico demonstrated excellent chemistry throughout the Euro 2024 and combined fantastically in the final to triumph over England.

According to Matthaus, the true market value of the Athletic Club winger is “in the range of three-digit millions.”

Regarding Lamine Yamal, he emphasizes the “calm and serenity with which he uses his outstanding technique.”

The former German midfielder stated that he was initially left awestruck by Germany’s young duo, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz.

However, he believes the Spanish pair of Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal surpass even them.

“After beating Scotland 5-1, I said that our magic duo ‘Wusiala’ is unique. Now it is clear that the Spaniards have an even better duo! Both benefited from the good team performance. And Luis de la Fuente gave them full confidence,” he stated.

In fact, Matthaus added both Yamal and Nico to his Euro 2024 ideal starting lineup, which is a testament to the quality he sees within them.

If everything falls into place and no unexpected hurdles crop up, Barcelona fans can get ready to feast on this duo running rings around defenders at their club.
