Julian Nagelsmann has opened the door to a sensational German call up for Celtic’s Nicolas Kühn. The 24-year-old has been in stellar form for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, scoring a brace in the UEFA Champions League win over RB Leipzig.
Ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Nations League game against Hungary, the former Bayern Munich boss said that Kühn was being watched due to his excellent displays for Celtic.
Nagelsmann admitted that Kühn among other German players had caught the coach’s eye: “We are focusing on all German players. Malick (Thiaw) has been with the national team before but has been out for quite some time recently.
“I think both he and (Yann) Bisseck are great players who still need to improve on some things. “Kuhn is also a good player with a lot of desire. He’s someone we’re keeping an eye on.
“But calling up a new player always means excluding another.”
It was a slow start from Kühn, who arrived from Rapid Vienna last January. The winger struggled to keep up with the physical demands of Celtic after arriving with dental issues. With this having been remedied, Kühn started improving and providing more for the squad. Celtic have benefited from his performances this season with the German having scored ten goals and assisted on eleven occasions in all competitions.
A call up would be astonishing for Kühn and it would be affirming for his efforts so far this season. Moreover, it would reflect that Celtic can attract, develop and retain top talents.
