German World Cup winner Sami Khedira is reportedly close to returning to his former club Real Madrid as an assistant coach under José Mourinho.

According to Fabrizio Romano, an agreement is already in place for the 39-year-old former Germany international to take up a role as Mourinho’s assistant.

However, Sky Germany reports that while Khedira is keen on the move, several details still need to be negotiated, including the length of a potential contract.

Khedira, 39, retired from professional football in 2021. He represented Real Madrid between 2015 and 2021, scoring nine goals and providing 13 assists in 161 appearances.

At international level, he earned 77 caps for Germany, scoring seven goals.
