Germany hit by injury setback as attacker withdraws from squad

RB Leipzig attacker Brajan Gruda will not be able to link up with the Germany squad on Sunday as planned, the German Football Association announced on Monday.

Gruda, who was named in the second of two Germany squads for the next four UEFA Nations League matches, suffered an injury during RB Leipzig’s 2-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.

The 22-year-old has been diagnosed with a strain to his lateral abdominal muscles, meaning he will be unavailable for Germany during the international break.

It remains to be seen whether Klopp will call up a replacement for Gruda, who was part of the 20-man squad for Germany’s home game against Serbia and away trip to Greece in October.

Before those two matches, Klopp’s 24-man squad will be in action against the Netherlands away from home and Greece at home.
