Despite a lackluster display, Germany secured three points in Monday’s World Cup qualifier in Belfast, edging Northern Ireland 1-0.
Below are our player ratings for the German team.
GK: Oliver Baumann - 6/10
A generally solid performance from the Hoffenheim goalkeeper, who was reliable when called upon to make saves. Could have been sharper with his distribution at times, and a misplaced pass to Joshua Kimmich led to one of the hosts’ better chances.
RB: Joshua Kimmich - 5/10
Very active as usual, moving centrally to get more on the ball. Produced some decent overlaps and crosses in the first half, but overall didn’t provide the level of threat he’s usually capable of when playing on the right, and also struggled at times defensively.
CB: Jonathan Tah - 5/10
Didn’t make any crucial mistakes, but didn't impress either. Looked a bit heavy at times and could have been sharper with his passing.
CB: Nico Schlotterbeck - 7/10
One of Germany's better-performing players, Schlotterbeck won a solid number of duels and played a key role in playing the ball forward from defence.
LB: David Raum - 7/10
Another decent performance. Worked tirelessly and delivered some dangerous crosses, including the corner that led to Germany’s winning goal.
CDM: Leon Goretzka - 4/10
Worked hard, but it was a largely forgettable performance from the Bayern midfielder, who barely made any impact on the game.
CDM: Aleksandar Pavlović - 5/10
Very secure in his passing as usual, but never really dominated play in midfield as the focal point, as he is otherwise capable of.
RW: Karim Adeyemi - 3/10
A night to forget for the Borussia Dortmund attacker. Lost possession far too easily with sloppy passing, struggled in one-on-one situations, and failed to make an impact when it mattered. Used his pace briefly in the second half but squandered a golden opportunity one-on-one with Peacock-Farrell. Taken off after 64 minutes.
CAM: Serge Gnabry - 5/10
Very energetic from the start and tried hard, but never really became a threat. He lost influence after the break and was seldom involved.
LW: Florian Wirtz - 6/10
Had his moments, but didn't succeed with everything. Occasionally caused problems with his dribbling and showed good vision and creativity, though he could have been more goal-oriented. Provided a perfect through ball to Adeyemi early in the second half, which the winger should have converted, but saw less of the ball towards the end.
ST: Nick Woltemade - 6/10
Was in the right place at the right time to score the winning goal for Germany. Some might call it more luck than skill as the ball bounced off his back, but Woltemade won’t mind. He wasn’t as involved in the game as he would have liked, though that wasn’t entirely his fault, and he battled hard against the Northern Ireland centre-backs.
