Sky Germany understands that the German national team's internal goal that has been set for this World Cup is making the quarterfinals.

If the Julian Nagelsmann's team reaches the last eight, the DFB (German Football Association) would consider it a success.

Beyond that, advancing to the first semi-finals of a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup would be considered a huge success.

At first, this may appear to lack ambition from the four-time world champions, but Germany's recent World Cup experiences have been grim.

During the 2018 edition of the tournament in Russia, then defending champions Germany endured a first-ever group stage elimination.

In the most recent Qatar 2022 World Cup, they were dumped out of Group E which was made up of Spain, Japan and Costa Rica.

It's clear that the German Football Association don't want to place too much pressure on the team ahead of the 2026 tournament.
