Germany put down a marker in their Euro 2022 opener as they beat dark horses Denmark 4-0 at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Scorers: Magull 20â˛, SchĂźller 57â˛, Lattwein 79â˛, Popp 86â˛
West London was the venue for tonightâs intriguing clash and it was Chelsea captain Pernille Harder who the crowd had come to see with Denmark looking to upset the giantsâ of the womenâs game.
It was a fairly nervy start from both sides but it was the Danes who had the best opportunity in the opening exchanges with Rikke Madsen clipping her header wide of the post.
But it was the six timesâ champions who almost scored inside 10 minutes as Lina Magullâs first-time effort from 25 yards crashed back off the crossbar.
And it was Magull who got the opening goal on 20 minutes as she made the most of some hesitant defending and fired in a superb effort past Lene Christensen and into the top right-hand corner.
Into the second half and Germany made their dominance pay by doubling the lead on the hour mark.
A corner from the left found Lea SchĂźller, who leapt highest and headed in from close range.
Martina Voss-Tecklenburgâs side cemented a brilliant victory with 10 minutes to go as Lena Lattwein got on the end of a loose ball inside the area and blasted home before Alexandra Poppâs diving header made it four.
