Marc-Patrick Meister called up 21 players for the upcoming U17 World Cup in Qatar. Germany were the defending champions with their first-ever title a couple of years ago in Indonesia. Only Brazil (1997, 1999) and Nigeria (2013, 2015) managed back-to-back championships in the previous 19 editions.
Wisdom Mike, who makes his first-team debut for Bayern in a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen, is the biggest name in Germany’s roster. However, the leading scorer in the European qualifiers, Lennart Karl, will be missing the final tournament.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Alexander Staff, who scored in all three games of the Round 2 qualifiers, will be leading the attack up front. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Marcello Trippel will be the starting goalkeeper.
This will be the first time the U17 World Cup will be contested between 48 teams. Germany will start their campaign against Colombia on November 4th, with North Korea and Honduras completing the set in Group G. They plan to arrive in Qatar a week before the opening fixture, and play against Canada on October 30th.
