Germanys U21's 24-man squad for this month’s European Championship qualifiers against Northern Ireland (March 27) and Greece (March 31) has been announced.
“Northern Ireland and Greece are our two strongest group opponents, which is why this international break is of particular importance for our European Championship qualification,” said Germany U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo.
With Di Salvo’s side currently second in the group, three points behind Greece, they are aiming to move into top spot.
“Against the physically strong Northern Irish, we must compete from the very first minute. I am convinced that with the support of our fans in Braunschweig, we can win this match and then have a real top clash in Athens," said Di Salvo.
"Due to our defeat in the first leg, Greece are currently top of our group, and we obviously want to change that – fully aware of the quality of the Greek team. Nevertheless, we aim to win both matches in order to go into the final qualification games in the autumn from the best possible position,” he added.
Karim Coulibaly (Werder Bremen), Max Finkgräfe (RB Leipzig) and Cajetan Lenz (VfL Bochum) have all received their first call-ups to the squad.
“We are looking forward to getting to know these players and are excited to see how they integrate into the U21 group,” said Di Salvo.
