Barcelona returned to winning ways this past weekend following a 6-0 victory over Valencia at Estadi Johan Cruyff.
The win helped the Catalans keep up with league leaders Real Madrid, who are the only team in the division to retain a hundred percent winning record this season.
However, another team that has done exceptionally well are Getafe, Barcelona’s next opponent in La Liga, with the two teams slated to face each other on Sunday.
Gerafe have won three out of four matches in La Liga this season, the same as Barcelona, although Jose Bordalas’ men are behind by a point.
Getafe’s captain, Djene Dakonam, has played a key role in this early success. His mentality has often acted as a confidence booster for his side, and as he gears up for the Barcelona match this weekend, the defender had a few words to share.
Djene had no qualms praising Barcelona, even hailing them as one of the best teams in the world.
“Barcelona have a very strong squad and can rotate players, and the ones coming in are good. Barcelona is one of the best teams in the world,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

“I don’t think that (playing Newcastle before facing Getafe) is an advantage for anyone. We’re going to face a Barcelona with good players, and we have to compete to win,” he added, when asked about a potential advantage for Getafe.
However, Djene emphasised that Getafe will give their everything and look to extend their positive start to the season, saying:
“We have a family and we’re a team. And no one here gives up, starting with the coach, who gives us values that we try to express on the pitch. Praise weakens us.”
“Now, step by step, game by game, and we’re going to try to give the best version of ourselves. We have to keep improving to keep adding points. We’re doing well now. We have to keep going like this, and we’ll see,” he added.
When asked about having to play against the Blaugrana at Estadi Johan Cruyff instead of Camp Nou, the Getafe captain offered a coy response.
“We’re going to represent this crest well, which gives us so much. We have to work as hard as we are, and the result will be known on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. We’re aware of the situation, and we all have to be together. I think we’ll continue at this level,” he said.
Finally, the Getafe captain explained why he was taken off in the last game against Real Oviedo, where he was replaced at half-time.
“It was the accumulation of matches. I played ninety minutes for my national team in both matches and then had to travel. I got a slight fever, and then it was hot. That’s why I asked the manager to change me,” he concluded.
