Manchester City winger required treatment in the second half

Carlos Queiroz has allayed injury worries surrounding Antoine Semenyo after he was seen limping late in Ghana’s World Cup group stage defeat by Croatia.

The Black Stars fell to third in Group L as they were beaten 2-1 in Philadelphia, with goals from Petar Sucic and Nikola Vlasic cancelling out Derrick Luckassen’s equaliser.

Worries were sparked late on, though, when Semenyo went down in the Croatia box towards the end of the tie.

He received treatment and left the pitch, but ultimately finished out the 90 minutes.

Speaking at full-time, however, Queiroz was quick to put down any worries, saying the player had avoided serious injury.

“No, its just a knock, twisted a little bit the ankle,” he told reporters.

It appears Semenyo will be available for the round of 32.

Reviewing the result, Queiroz said it simply came down to a question of one team making fewer mistakes than the other.

He continued: “Croatia scored two goals, two easy goals. Much too easy, the way they scored. When you score one more goal than the opponent, you have the merit to win the game.

“Simple like that. It means we make one more mistake than the opponent, and when you make one more mistake than the opponent, that is it.”
