Ghana appeared before the Federal Court of Canada on Tuesday as it sought to overturn a visa refusal for Thomas Partey, who is due to face trial for rape in Great Britain in 2027.

The hearing was scheduled for 20:00, according to CBC, and followed Ghana’s description of the entry ban, announced on Friday, as authoritarian and extremely unfair.

Canadian authorities declined to confirm the refusal, saying they could not provide details on individual cases.

Partey is currently unable to travel to Toronto, where Ghana are due to begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on Wednesday.

The Villarreal midfielder has pleaded not guilty to seven counts of rape and one of sexual assault, linked to accusations by four women between 2020 and 2022, when he was at Arsenal.
