Ghanaian footballer Dominic Frimpong, 20, has died after being shot during an armed attack on Berekum Chelsea’s team bus on Sunday evening.

Police said he was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital but died while receiving treatment, adding that the driver tried to reverse to escape six armed men, three carrying shotguns, who then opened fire, and that an investigation has begun with extra teams and specialists deployed to trace the attackers.

The bus was targeted in the Ashanti region after a league match.

It was carrying about 30 players and officials.

The Ghana Football Association expressed deep dismay and great sadness at his death, describing it as a tragic incident that has deeply shaken the football community.
