Como’s manager, Cesc Fabregas, had plenty of admirers during the summer, including Bayer Leverkusen, Inter Milan, and Roma.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio via FCInterNews, the highly-rated coach held talks with all three clubs.

Fabregas had emerged as the top candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi immediately after the latter announced his agreement with Al-Hilal.

Indeed, Beppe Marotta was keen to lure the former Arsenal midfielder to San Siro at all costs.

Despite lacking experience in top-flight management, the Spaniard impressed in his debut Serie A season.

Furthermore, he did not just help Como retain their elite status in their first season back in Serie A in over 20 years.

He made them one of the most exciting teams to watch in Italy’s top division.

Therefore, he seemed like a perfect replacement for Inzaghi.

However, Cesc Fabregas never had any desire to leave Como, as he has four more years left to run on his contract.

Inter were not the only interested club during the summer.

After parting ways with Xabi Alonso, Bayer Leverkusen had thought about hiring Fabregas.

However, they ended up signing Erik ten Hag, who’s already part of the club’s history.

Finally, Roma had considered Fabregas as a viable contender for the job.

Claudio Ranieri’s return to retirement at the end of last season opened a vacancy in the dugout.

Yet, after Fabregas rejected the move, the Giallorossi appointed Gian Piero Gasperini as the new head coach.

“Fabregas was never close to leaving Como this summer,” Di Marzio claims. “He spoke with Bayer, Roma, Inter, in the famous aperitivo with Ausilio, leaving the door slightly open for everyone.

“He would say, ‘Talk to Como,’ but there was never any pressure.

“The club never had any intention of letting him go and satisfied him in the transfer market.”
