Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace at the City Ground after Morgan Gibbs-White put them ahead, then Neco Williams was sent off for handball on the stroke of half-time and the visitors equalised from the spot. Forest played the second period with 10 men.

According to Nottingham Post, Sean Dyche’s side showed resilience and quality, and on another day could have taken all three points.

Williams left frustrated after his dismissal, later apologising to team-mates and to supporters online. Dyche called the handball instinctive and praised the full-back’s consistency. Gibbs-White lightened the mood on Instagram, replying to Williams, “Great save lad”.

Debutant Angus Gunn replaced the injured Matz Sels at half-time and had little to do as Palace failed to hit the target after the break. A reshuffled back line protected him, with Ibrahim Sangare and Elliot Anderson strong in midfield. Gibbs-White thrived higher up and finished with composure.

Forest are unbeaten in four league games this year, collecting eight points. The gap to the bottom three stands at six points, with Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers up next.

Fans revived the clubs’ summer dispute over European involvement, chanting Evangelos Marinakis’ name, though there was no boardroom drama with Steve Parish. In the tunnel, a mascot cheekily thumbed his nose at Dean Henderson, amusing the keeper and captain Gibbs-White.

Before kick-off, new signing Stefan Ortega was presented to the crowd, the former Manchester City goalkeeper a timely arrival given Sels’ injury. With Williams suspended, Oleksandr Zinchenko’s loan cut short on Sunday evening and Nicolo Savona sidelined, a full-back is a priority before the 7pm deadline. A midfielder and a striker could also be added if the fit is right, with no appetite for panic.
