Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White said teammate Neco Williams has apologised to the side after his red card contributed to the club’s draw with Crystal Palace.

Forest led inside five minutes through Gibbs-White, but the game turned on the stroke of half-time.

Williams hand-balled to deny Jefferson Lerman’s goal-bound header for Palace, conceding a penalty and earning a straight red card. Ismaila Sarr stepped up to convert and equalise for the visitors.

Forest battled to a point despite playing the entire second half with 10 men, a result that moves Sean Dyche’s side six points clear of the relegation places.

Gibbs-White was disappointed his side could not take all three points as the club fight to preserve their Premier League status.

“It felt like we could have taken all three today. We dominated in the first half and we went one man down. It was Neco’s natural instinct and he apologised to us all. It’s not his fault,” he said, speaking to Sky Sports.

“The gaffer said we have to stick together, run together and work as a team. To stay defensive and then go for the attack. We did that perfectly.

“We have to keep looking forward and that won’t change but we have to be mindful.”
