Gilberto Mora’s rise shows no sign of slowing. Fast-tracked by Javier Aguirre at 16, the Mexico playmaker has already featured at a World Cup.

The Xolos de Tijuana teenager scored in Mexico’s 1-1 draw with Colombia, feinting past two defenders and beating the near post for his first senior goal. At 17 years and 347 days he became the youngest scorer in Tri history, and Rafa Márquez handed him the number 10 shirt. Márquez has urged patience while expressing hope that his next step comes with a major European club. Mora turns 18 on 14 October, which will ease any future move. As reports that Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring him, and he has also been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Benfica. Agent Rafaela Pimenta has previously acknowledged concrete European contact.
