Manchester United have had a quiet few weeks in the summer transfer window.

United are thought to be in the market for a third midfielder and a full-back, but they have made little progress in their pursuit of preferred targets such as Aurelien Tchouameni and Lewis Hall.

Michael Carrick could also do with a central defender, given worrying injury records of Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt. Amid this, INEOS have set their sights on a player who could potentially be their jack of all trades.

Manchester United want a new left-back

According to The Telegraph’s James Ducker, Manchester United are exploring options to strengthen the left-back area as Luke Shaw is the only recognised senior left-back at Old Trafford.

Lewis Hall has plenty of admirers at United, but it would likely “take an exorbitant offer for Newcastle to countenance selling and the player potentially forcing the issue, too.”

Newcastle United have already sold Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon and are nearing an agreement with Arsenal for the transfer of Bruno Guimaraes. As such, convincing them to offload another incredibly talented player seems to be an uphill task.

Manchester United interested in Giorgio Scalvini

It is claimed that Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini has been scouted by United and has his admirers in Manchester.

Standing at 6ft 4in, the 22-year-old Italian is a technically gifted player who can play across a back three or back four and is capable of stepping into a defensive midfield role.

He made 24 appearances in Serie A last term, scoring three goals and assisting once.

Scalvini has less than 24 months left to run on his contract in Bergamo. A separate report from The Sun suggested that Atalanta want at least £42 million for their versatile star, who is being monitored by several Premier League clubs.

Earlier today, The Athletic’s Transfer DealSheet revealed that the United staff are considering where to next put their resources and it is now “not certain that another player arrives” in midfield.

However, by signing someone like Scalvini, United could address multiple concerns without a massive outlay.
