After Italy’s latest defeat and the subsequent resignation of Gabriele Gravina, the favorite to replace him as FIGC president appears to be Giovanni Malagò.

The former CONI president has been voted in by Italy’s top football clubs for the upcoming elections on June 22nd, when Gravina’s successor as FIGC president will be announced.

Malagò, CONI president from 2013 to 2025, was voted in by 18 of the 20 Serie A teams.

Among the clubs that abstained, as reported by Il Corriere dello Sport, was Lotito’s Lazio, which, however, still represented a minority at today’s meeting.

The deadline for nominations is May 13th. During this time, possible alternatives to Malagò will also be considered, as he currently appears to be the favorite to fill this extremely delicate role and bring Italian football back to where it deserves to be.
