The Girona B took an almost definitive step towards staying up after defeating Atlètic Lleida 3-1 in a match that started off complicated but was turned around by the Girona team.
The game couldn’t have started worse for the home side. In the 10th minute, Moró Sidibe put Atlètic Lleida ahead, capitalizing on a well-executed offensive play that momentarily silenced the atmosphere. Shortly after, however, the match took a significant turn: the referee sent off Quim Utgés for an elbow on Momo during a contested ball, leaving the visitors with ten men and changing the course of the game.
With numerical superiority, Girona B gained ground and confidence until they found their reward. In the 32nd minute, Garrido confidently converted a penalty to restore parity before halftime, a crucial goal to approach the second half with momentum.
After the break, Girona’s dominance became more pronounced. In the 55th minute, Javi González completed the comeback by capitalizing on a rebound inside the box, showing opportunism and determination. The same player extended the lead in the 64th minute, finishing off a well-executed team play that highlighted the growth of Quique Álvarez’s side as the minutes passed.
With the 3-1 scoreline, Girona B managed the final stretch without excessive struggles, controlling the pace of the game against an Atlètic Lleida side that, despite their efforts, felt the impact of being a man down.
This victory leaves Girona B with their survival in the league practically secured. Next Sunday, the Girona team will visit the Dani Jarque Sports City to face Espanyol B (6:30 PM).
