Girona have signed goalkeeper Rubén Blanco Veiga on a free transfer, agreeing a deal until 30 June 2026 to strengthen the position following Ter Stegen’s injury. According to Superdeporte, the club moved quickly to secure experienced cover.
Born in Mos, Pontevedra on 25 July 1995, he arrives at 29 with significant top-flight and European experience. His profile offers an immediate and dependable option in a demanding period.
A Celta de Vigo academy graduate, Blanco debuted in LaLiga at 17 and stayed with the Galician club from 2012 to 2022.
He played in LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and Europe, earning trust in high-pressure scenarios. Consistency and adaptability underpinned his evolving role.
In 2022 he joined Olympique de Marseille on loan. Strong displays in Ligue 1 prompted a permanent deal for 2023-24.
Blanco is noted for assured handling, sharp close-range reflexes and strong command of his area, especially at set plays and crosses. He organises the defence and brings calm.
His LaLiga background should aid quick adaptation, while Ligue 1 experience adds maturity for decisive fixtures.
