‘Give him time’ is washing thin at Rangers as Derek McInnes soars clear

An argument we hear a lot in favour of Russell Martin involves the ‘please give him time FFS. ‘New team, new manager, new tactics, it will take a while to implement it all’. The short version is his backers want him given time because his tactics and system and players need time to settle in, apparently. However, there is already a gigantic argument against that, and we don’t just mean Rangers being 5th in the league. Derek McInnes is doing a lot better at Hearts than Rangers!

McInnes

Derek McInnes is a brand new manager at Hearts. He has signed many players this summer, and is implementing his own new strategies. He’s already top of the table having beaten Aberdeen and Dundee United. It is pretty clear that these lines from some Gers fans are just excuses.

It is very curious to us at Ibrox Noise, how many times fans who back the manager and team FFS, or the happy clappers as they’re also known, use the excuses of how they need time to implement strategies and tactics etc, when they seem to also be the only club in the universe who needs this time.

Of course, we do know that in football, it can be a thing that procedures of change do take time. We do accept that that can happen. But every single time, it is the same argument that these happy clappers use to defend poor performances, poor tactics and bad signings.

Comparison

Derek McInnes has won 2 out of 2, beating Aberdeen and Dundee United, scoring 5 conceding 2. Rangers have 2 draws against Motherwell and Dundee. Already, the calibre of team that Rangers are struggling against is far, far lower than the calibre of team that Hearts have beaten. Derek McInnes is doing a lot better at Hearts than Rangers.

New manager, new players, new strategy, instant results. Yes, they went out of the cup. That wouldn’t have been ideal after extra time. But nevertheless, in the league is where it really matters and Hearts are top of the table.

Now, we’re not saying that they’re necessarily going to stay there. But it shows that the excuse of time and of new players, new manager, new strategy, new tactics is a bit thin. It doesn’t seem to apply to Hearts. It doesn’t seem to apply to a lot of teams. But it always seems to apply in these fans’ eyes to Rangers.

We wonder why that is.
