Give Martin a break for heaven’s sake, he doesn’t deserve any of this

Martin O’Neill is only in temporary charge of the club at this moment in time, but that hasn’t stopped him feeling the pressure, and it’s nothing to do with on field activities, more of the turmoil we are currently experiencing off it…

Martin was asked his thoughts on today’s AGM debacle, and he unsurprisingly backed his temporary bosses to the hilt, while calling for unity, leading to some criticism from a section of our support. But should we really be surprised? And what else was he supposed to say?

Martin is tight with a few of those upstairs, and has a much publicised long standing relationship with majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, so why should any of us be shocked by his defence of those in the firing line?

The Irishman wouldn’t have helped us in our hour of need if he felt the same way as the supporters about our incompetent custodians, so why should anyone be taking aback by his thoughts on the entire situation? He probably has no idea what he was walking into and having been to a number AGMs in his first spell in charge he was probably expecting more of the same, rather than today’s rammy.

Martin is an experienced manager, let him deal with on field activities. He’s only here for a short period and shouldn’t be dragged into the ever growing hostility between the board and the supporters. He doesn’t deserve the flak and as a support we should not attempt to drag him into it.

The Board didn’t need to have him there today, especially as he has a game to prepare for with a squad just getup back together fully this morning. He never asked to go to the AGM he was asked to go.

So leave out the criticism of Martin and direct it elsewhere. Today was not down to him in any way whatsoever. But you already know that anyway, don’t you?
