Relegation could trigger significant sales at cash-strapped Borussia Mönchengladbach as the budget shrinks.

According to Bild, a mass exodus could follow if the Foals go down. They are 14th and five points clear of FC St. Pauli in the relegation play-off spot, but momentum could turn.

If relegated, salaries would be halved, but even at half pay they would remain costly for the club.

Missing out on top-flight revenue would likely prompt further exits. Nico Elvedi, Robin Hack, Tim Kleindienst and Florian Neuhaus are among the highest earners who could be sold.

Sporting director Schröder has said recently that sales would be required to fund any signings.

Gladbach are keen to keep Haris Tabakovic and Yannick Engelhardt, though that would demand additional income.

Meanwhile, despite full backing a month ago, Eugen Polanski’s work is now being heavily questioned.
