However, the game swung when the French defender was dismissed after the break, for hauling down Matheus Cunha.

Despite the initial contact beginning outside the area, Lacroix was shown a red card and the home side awarded a penalty.

Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot to equalise, before picking out Benjamin Sesko for the winner as Manchester United made their man advantage count.

Glasner was dumfounded by the decision, criticising the officials for a decisive mistake.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Glaser said: “It is decisive when you are 1-0 up and then concede a penalty and then have one player less.

“The foul was outside the box and the foul should be given where it starts, not where it ends. Matheus Cunha was very clever. We tried everything to get the equaliser and we were in good situations four or five times.

“I think we played three days ago and that impacts the game when you are one player down and the crowd gets back into the game and 1-1.”
