Oliver Glasner threw doubt on his immediate future as Crystal Palace, who have reportedly opened talks with the manager about his position.

The Austrian has been at odds with the club over the transfer strategy, which has seen the Eagles sell Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi this season, while big money has been spent on Jorgen Strand Larsen, Brennan Johnson and Yeremy Pino.

Palace have been in poor form since Glasner said the team had been “abandoned” by the club’s hierarchy, losing to Sunderland, Chelsea and Burnley in the Premier League, while they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bosnian side HŠK Zrinjski Mostar in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.

On Friday morning, Fabrizio Romano reported that Glasner and Palace board have entered “direct discussions” about his future at Selhurst Park. The coach has already confirmed he will leave at the end of the season, but his departure could be expedited “shortly”. He has been linked with the Manchester United and Spurs jobs, with both clubs searching for their next permanent manager.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game against Wolves, Glasner admitted he is “not good enough” to replicate last season’s form with the new signings Palace have made or to cope with the increased fixture schedule.

Asked if he feels he can lead the team until the end of the campaign, Glasner answered: “Let’s see. I always said [this] – and this wasn’t the first press conference where I could just repeat myself.

“As I said, eventually you always depend on your players, and they will get all the support like always, and then we will see.

Glasner would not give a direct answer when asked if he wants to stay until the summer. “Let’s see what the future brings. You never know.”

When asked what needs to happen to ensure he’ll stay until the end of the season, he responded: “In football, it’s easy. As a manager, you will stay or be allowed to stay when the results are okay. Football is all about this, and the last months the results were not good. The performances were not consistently good and that’s it.”
