Serge Gnabry has taken an important step toward his return. The FC Bayern forward was back on the training field at Säbener Straße on Tuesday for his first intensive individual training session.
This is welcome news for FC Bayern and Serge Gnabry. The 30-year-old continues to work intensively on his comeback following a torn adductor muscle in his right thigh and has now completed the next stage of his rehabilitation.
On Tuesday afternoon, the forward took to the field for an individual training session. After various running and mobility exercises, Gnabry also worked with the ball again under the guidance of athletic and rehabilitation coach Simon Martinello.
For the Bayern pro, this is another positive sign on his path back to team training.
Gnabry suffered the serious injury in mid-April and consequently missed the decisive phase of the season. Both the final weeks with FC Bayern and the World Cup with the German national team took place without the forward.
Missing the World Cup in particular must have been especially frustrating for the forward. Before his injury, Gnabry was a regular in national team coach Julian Nagelsmann’s squad.
Now, however, the focus is entirely on his return to FC Bayern. The fact that the 30-year-old can train with the ball again shows that his rehabilitation is proceeding as planned. It will likely still be some time before he fully returns to team training, though.
In addition to Gnabry, David Santos Daiber was also working on his comeback on Tuesday. The central midfielder for Bayern’s amateur team suffered a torn muscle tendon in his left thigh in early May and is also undergoing rehabilitation.

For FC Bayern, the progress made by both players is good news. In Gnabry’s case in particular, club officials are hopeful that the attacking player will soon be able to return to full strength after his long layoff.
The next step is to gradually increase his workload. By returning to the training field, Gnabry has cleared an important hurdle toward that goal.
