Luka Jovic has often been seen as a side option for AC Milan, and his renewal this season has been a regular question. However, he continues to prove his worth.
With Olivier Giroud departing in the summer, there was a need for some continuity in Milan’s front line, so Jovic had his deal renewed by a year. However, just weeks later, the club were open to separating.
Injuries plagued the first half of his year, as did a struggle for minutes when fit, and this meant that come January, the Rossoneri were once again trying to make a split occur.
Once again, though, there were no suitors to be found, so the Serbian striker remained at the club. Now, it seems like a potential blessing in disguise, with Jovic rising from the shadows and helping the Diavolo when he is needed.
As Goal report, with his goal against Fiorentina, he has averaged a goal every 131 minutes, despite his record not looking very appealing – 11 goals in 39 appearances. However, this record has actually only been bettered by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who averaged a goal every 128 minutes.
Now, he is even being touted as being ahead of Santiago Gimenez in the squad list, which is certainly a shock, and maybe there could be the chance of another renewal.
Jovic has often been the ‘desperation move’ for Milan, but perhaps he has been overly criticised.
