Despite heavy rotation, FC Bayern won 5-0 against FC St. Pauli and broke a 50-year-old goal scoring record in the process, leaving the Munich side well prepared for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid

As usual, Bayern made it clear early on at the Millerntor where the journey was heading. Despite making seven changes to the starting XI, the Munich side looked active from the start and pressed for the opening goal, which came as early as the ninth minute: Michael Olise and Leon Goretzka played the ball into the right half of the pitch to Konrad Laimer, who crossed to Jamal Musiala in the five-yard box, who headed the ball in unchallenged to make it 1-0 for FCB

Eight minutes later, Olise almost doubled the lead. He picked up a misplaced pass, caught Lars Ritzka one-on-one on the edge of the penalty area, but then shot narrowly wide of the left post from around ten metres. Musiala could have completed his brace in the 28th minute. Nikola Vasilj slipped a clearance, which then landed with Joshua Kimmich. The latter switched quickly and found Guerreiro in the deep area, who passed to Musiala, whose shot was only prevented from hitting the inside of the post

After around half an hour, St. Pauli also made their first dangerous appearance in front of the Munich goal. Arkadiusz Pyrka found Pereira from the baseline at the back of the Bayern defence, but Minjae Kim threw everything he had into Pereira Lage’s shot from a good ten metres

Goretzka breaks goal scoring record

In the 52nd minute, the time had come: Leon Goretzka scored FC Bayern’s historic 102nd Bundesliga goal of the season. After a free-kick cross from Kimmich, Ritzka unhappily crossed to the far post, where Goretzka volleyed the ball into the net from around six metres

The visitors added to their tally just two minutes later. Immediately after the kick-off, the ball came through central defender Karol Mets to Goretzka, whose block allowed the ball to bounce to Olise. The high-class striker set off on a sprint through the center and finished flat and well-placed into the bottom left-hand corner from a central position around 18 metres out

In the 65th minute, it was finally 4:0 – and St. Pauli were again punished coldly: Joel Fujita lost the ball at the left corner of the penalty area and then Musiala played the ball through to Jackson, who was free in front of goal from around eight meters and slotted the ball into the right-hand corner

Raphael Guerreiro made it 5:0 in the 89th minute. Hauke Wahl fumbled a ball, which ended up with Jackson, who crossed for the onrushing Guerreiro, who gave Vasilj no chance in a one-on-one. The sixth almost came, but Goretzka was offside when he scored.
