It has been a bad weekend for goalkeepers across the globe.
Zack Steffen was caught dawdling in possession at Wembley on Saturday, allowing Sadio Mané to close him down and score Liverpool’s crucial second goal in a 3-2 FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City.
And across the Atlantic in Mexico, Atlético San Luis stopper Marcelo Barovero had his own moment to forget on Friday.
Defending a corner against Necaxa, the 38-year-old made an absolute hash of a relatively tame header from fellow Argentine Milton Giménez to allow his side fall behind in what ultimately became a 4-2 defeat.
Barovero, who spent four years at River Plate earlier in his career, may argue that a dodgy bounce off the turf at the Estadio Victoria was responsible for the concession.
But we’re not having any of it. Not sure even the Goalkeepers’ Union will back him on this one!
