Mbwana Samatta grabbed two goals at the weekend in Genk’s derby draw with Sint-Truiden, giving the Tanzanian international three goals in his last two games. Prior to that, the 30-year-old had only scored one goal in 20 matches. Having lost Paul Onuachu to Southampton in January, and then his replacement Tolu Arokodare to an injury, Genk were looking to their former star striker to rediscover his form that saw him earn a move to Aston Villa.
League leaders Genk twice went ahead against their local rivals Sint-Truiden, with the Canaries pegging them back thanks to goals from Shinji Okazaki and Gianni Bruno. After this draw, and other results, Genk’s lead over second place Union St Gilloise is just eight points now, while their lead over Antwerp is 10. Both of these sides won their respective games.
Genk will face Union at home on Sunday evening. Back in September, it was Samatta amongst the goals again as he opened his account for the season against Union in the 92nd minute.
