Konate fires five in festivities

Our boys won their second friendly match of pre-season 8-1 against SV Kuchl after a sensational second-half showing. Konate (x5), Simic (x2) and Forson all got onto the scoring list for our boys.

Match summary

The hosts provided a present at the start of their 70th anniversary celebrations - of the unwanted kind for them - Roko Simic pressed the Kuchl goalkeeper from the start and forced the ball into the net after just 16 seconds. The regional league side managed to come back and level in the opening stages, however, as our former academy player Marco Hödl finished a quick break to level at 1-1 (9'), before Roko Simic restored our lead from the penalty spot after 15 minutes of play.

Dorgeles Nene & Co continued to look for holes in the opposing defence, but they defended well and threatened on the break. It therefore remained 2-1 at half-time.

Pep Lijnders sent a new-look XI out onto the pitch in the second half (with only Nene remaining) and saw his side smash a further six goals in the second 45.

As the game went on, our swift attacking moves became increasingly potent, with marksman Karim Konate having a huge impact from the bench. The top scorer in last season's Austrian Bundesliga hit five goals as we raced to an 8-1 win. Amankwah Forson also got on the scoresheet with our seventh goal.

We did a few things really well today! Our high pressing was great again - we scored twice by getting the ball off the goalkeeper. Our attacking and our build-up play still needs to get better. The boys are tired though, of course, as we had seven sessions in the past four days. All in all though, we had two teams playing 45 minutes each and nobody got injured - so I am a happy coach!

Pep Lijnders

Kuchl worked well off the ball and did that very well. We showed though in the second half how clinical we can be in front of goal. It was important for us to get some goals. We will keep on working on our play in the training camp - it will be tough, but that's important.
