Substitute Scott Pittman then finished from the centre of the box after a fast break, set up by Lewis Smith (81.).

Jerome Prior kept the visitors in it with five saves, repelling the hosts' best openings across both halves.

St Mirren pressed late, with Mark O'Hara striking the bar (90.) and Killian Phillips heading just over in the sixth minute of second half stoppage time.

The hosts dominated the ball with 62.8% possession and 17 attempts but could not find a finish. Livingston registered four attempts and produced 42 clearances in a disciplined display.

St Mirren visit Dundee next. Livingston host Aberdeen next.
