Weverton’s exit closes a successful chapter at Palmeiras and elevates captain Gustavo Gómez, who now stands as the squad’s longest-serving figure and further cements his place among the club’s greats.
According to Nosso Palestra, the Paraguay centre-back has played 380 matches, the second-highest total among the current group, with Raphael Veiga leading on 382.
His authority, already recognised on and off the pitch, carries added weight during a period of transition and renewal within the squad.
Gómez is one trophy from standing alone as the club’s most decorated player, surpassing Weverton, Marcos Rocha, Mayke, Dudu, Ademir da Guia and Junqueira, all on 12.
Since his arrival, he has embodied consistency, competitiveness and leadership. A mainstay of the defence and a vocal presence in the dressing room, he represents the continuity of an era defined by major honours at home and abroad.
