Gonçalo Guedes is at the heart of a dispute in Spain, with Real Sociedad challenging the yellow card he received for simulation in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg. The Benfica academy graduate has been one of their standout performers this season.

According to Glorioso 1904, the Basque club will lodge a fresh appeal after an initial effort was rejected, insisting the caution was unfounded and the incident was not a dive.

The opening leg finished 1-0 to Real Sociedad, with Guedes providing the assist.

In the 58th minute, referee José María Sánchez Martínez booked the winger for going to ground in the box, described in the report as simulating a foul. The move came during a rapid counter, with Guedes and Íñigo Lekue entering the area almost side by side.

This season Guedes has played 29 official matches for Real Sociedad, 24 in La Liga and five in the Copa del Rey, totalling 1,652 minutes. He has seven goals and seven assists and is valued at six million euros.
