Gonçalo Nunes wants Torreense to remain a respectful nuisance and cement rise in women’s football | OneFootball

Torreense head coach Gonçalo Nunes says he wants his side to keep unsettling rivals, with respect, while consolidating their growth in the women’s game.

"The expectation is to keep being what we have been and to consolidate our growth. We want to remain competitive, keep fighting to be in the mix and for our path in Europe, which has been a source of pride. We want to go on being a Torreense that is a nuisance for everyone, but with respect," he told Lusa at the league’s media day in Oeiras.

"It is important to understand the context. There are still important internal steps to take and they are being taken. It is still out of the box to think Torreense will fight for the league, but football is full of surprises. If that becomes possible, we will be motivated because we are a very ambitious group."

Now four years in Torres Vedras, Nunes welcomed FC Porto’s arrival in the top division. "It is excellent news, a giant club that will bring attention and media focus and help accelerate growth. I hope we can reach professionalisation quickly and that all clubs can be 100 percent dedicated to women’s football."

Portugal international goalkeeper Rute Costa called Torreense one of the league’s most exciting projects. "The three titles in the last 10 months create high expectations. We want to dream big, with our feet on the ground."
