Manchester United appear to be in for an intense transfer race as they seek to sign a proven goal scorer this summer.
The club has gotten the transfer window off to a blistering start, signing proven Premier League talents Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in addition to Diego Leon.
Still, the question of a striker remains, with the club seriously lacking firepower up front.
So far, United have been linked with several potential suitors this transfer window.
United’s options
Links with Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig have heated up in recent days, with United reportedly going toe-to-toe with Newcastle United in an effort to sign the Slovenian.
Nicolas Jackson is another possibility, with Chelsea reportedly offering the player to United for £80 million.
Another interesting option appears to be Paris Saint-Germain striker Goncalo Ramos, with United appearing to show more concrete interest in the Portuguese forward than other candidates.
Moving in on Ramos
Earlier this year, it was reported that United held talks with the PSG forward, signalling his openness to departing Paris.
If that seems to be a notable development, a new report seems to suggest that United boss Ruben Amorim could be closer than ever to signing a proven goal scorer for his side.
A transfer race ignites
This morning, CaughtOffside reported that United have entered a fiery battle to sign Ramos.
“Sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside that Ramos’ lack of consistent playing time has alerted several Premier League and Serie A sides who see a golden opportunity to pounce on a proven goal scorer,” the report read, suggesting that life in Paris might not be all that satisfactory for Ramos.
“English clubs Newcastle United, Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Liverpool are all assessing the possibility of a summer move.”
Liverpool, in particular, are believed to be considering Ramos as a potential long-term addition. Meanwhile, Man United continue to evaluate forward options and see Ramos as a possible alternative if other striker pursuits stall,” the article continued.
“United’s number one target is Benjamin Sesko, and Ramos is considered as an alternative option,” the report concluded, indicating that any move for Ramos would be contingent on the club’s success in their pursuit of Sesko.
Whether it’s Sesko or Ramos that United choose to sign, the club will surely hope to land a proven striker this summer, with the club in desperate need of filling in this vital position.
