There’s less than a week to go until Chelsea’s next Premier League game now – the itch can almost be scratched.
But while we’re on this international break it’s a nice moment to have a think about what’s going on with our squad as a whole in the light of the transfer window closing. Injuries are already starting to kick in as we get into the new season, and the squad is about to stress tested.
One late deal that fell through was Tyrique George’s move to Fulham. But with Liam Delap now facing some time on the sidelines, it might actually be quite handy, as Jessica Frota said on the London is Blue podcast this week.

“Tyrique George might help us out here, because if Maresca doesn’t feel comfortable maybe using Jamie Gittens or Alejandro Garnacho right off the bat, then with Liam Delap injured, [George could be] the false 9 or the central attacker and then you have Joao Pedro more behind him, and that’s an option that we do have right now if we need it because of injuries and all of that,” Frota explained.
“So maybe it’s just me being a silly optimist with this one, but I just have a good feeling.”
It’s very natural to have a good feeling – Maresca quite clearly took a liking to George last season, and used him repeatedly as our false 9 when Nicolas Jackson was out. There are more options to choose from now of course, but the good impression the youngster made will still be fresh in the manager’s mind when he makes decisions.
