‘Good for TV, bad for blood pressure’: Ryan Reynolds makes major Welcome To Wrexham announcement | OneFootball

The award-winning series Welcome To Wrexham has been renewed for a further three seasons, it was announced on Friday.

The show follows Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds and actor Rob McElhenney as they run the north Wales football team, nicknamed the Red Dragons.

This marks its first multi-season renewal, which will see it run until 2029 across a total of eight seasons.

Reynolds took to Instagram to alert his 50 million followers of the news, and wrote: “Welcome To Wrexham’s incredible season five premieres May 14 and we’ve been renewed for three more!

“Congrats to our Emmy-winning doc team, the town, and Wrexham AFC for always making things so dramatic and stressy. Good for TV, bad for blood pressure.”

The FX series chronicling the actors’ takeover of the club launched in 2022, and has won 10 Emmy Awards and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

Reynolds and McElhenney bought Wrexham for £2 million in February 2021 and have led the team out of the National League, the fifth division of English football, and into the Championship, which is beneath only the Premier League.

The team is currently just below the play-off places, and finishing in the top six would give them the chance to compete for promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Last year, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said Reynolds and McElhenney’s presence at the club “lifts the whole place”.
