Liverpool have received a timely injury boost with the confirmation that midfielder James McConnell is back in action.
McConnell, 21, made quite the impression on Arne Slot during the Dutchman’s first season at Anfield. He saw fit to include the former Sunderland youth plenty of times in his matchday squads with the youngster seeing action in the cup competitions.
Over summer McConnell signed a new long-term contract before heading out on loan under John Heitinga at Ajax. But that spell was curtailed in February with McConnell returning to the AXA Training Centre owing to injury.
He has been out of action since - requiring surgery - but is now back in match action following an extended spell out.
Liverpool’s under-21 side played their Paris Saint-Germain counterparts on Friday in a friendly game. Although the French side ran out 3-1 winners there was plenty to savour for Rob Page’s Reds.
Not only did McConnell make his comeback from injury but Calvin Ramsay was also on the scoresheet - reminding Arne Slot that he is still available should he need him.
“James McConnell made his return after long-term injury as #LFC U21s played a friendly at PSG on Friday,” Jack Lusby wrote on X.
“Strong side lost 3-1 at Campus PSG with Calvin Ramsay scoring for Liverpool. McConnell has been out since late December and required surgery.”
