Gorrotxategi back in full training at Zubieta ahead of Betis opener

Jon Gorrotxategi completed his first full pre-season session with the squad on Wednesday at Zubieta after a pubalgia problem that curtailed the end of his last campaign. The return comes nine days before the league opener against Betis.

According to Diario Vasco, no risks will be taken with his reintegration, given he has followed a tailored plan. He was forced to stop in March after the Villarreal game, later managed almost an hour in the Copa del Rey final, then skipped the run-in to target this season.

He now needs a personal mini pre-season to build rhythm, having missed all friendlies. Saturday’s trip to Chelsea also looks early. A place on the bench against Betis could be possible after a week and a half of training, but a starting role is ruled out.

Only two players remain in the treatment room after a flurry of returns across Tuesday and Wednesday. Marín, Goti and Karrikaburu trained on Tuesday, and with Gorrotxategi back the list is down to Guedes and Odriozola.

Guedes is still absent from training following a personal, non-football operation and will not travel to England to face Chelsea. He underwent surgery on Tuesday, with initial guidance of two weeks, so he would be touch and go for Betis. Odriozola continues his recovery from a cruciate rupture.
