Robin Gosens is poised to join Schalke 04 after being frozen out of Fiorentina’s pre-season plans. Sky Sports Deutschland reports that a full agreement is in place between the clubs and on personal terms.
Sky Sport Italia, Fabrizio Romano and Sportitalia add that the deal is a loan with an obligation to buy for €2.5m plus bonuses.
The wing-back was told he was not in Florence’s plans and was not invited to train at Viola Park under new coach Fabio Grosso.
Gosens turned 32 earlier this month and remains under contract with the Viola until June 2028. With the club having excluded him, they were content to accept a minimal fee to remove his wages from their books.
A move to Schalke would be significant for the German, who grew up supporting the club yet has never played for them.
He has spent most of his career in Italy, joining Atalanta in 2017 before a €27.4m switch to Inter in 2022. There was a brief return to Germany with Union Berlin in 2023-24, then a move back to Serie A with Fiorentina.
