Gotham FC celebrated the NWSL Championship in style in the Big Apple

The magic and the excitement of NJ/NY Gotham FC's 2025 NWSL Championship continued on Monday as the team celebrated their big win. The Cinderella run was even more impressive compared to the 2023 NWSL Championship, since the point difference between the Bats and the NWSL Shield winners, the Kansas City Current, was higher. They then had two more upsets after that quarterfinal win to lift the NWSL trophy.

So, what did the Bats do to celebrate? They had a small procession down to City Hall, and then celebrated with the fans outside the building. It was put together quickly due to the short window before the mandated break and international duty.

Nevertheless, that did not matter, for Gotham FC celebrated like the champions that they are. They first went on the procession, showing off the trophy on top of a bus. The ladies danced, had some champagne, and lifted the trophy in front of the fans.

When they got to City Hall, the players, coaches, and staff were able to talk to the fans and celebrate. There were a few speeches and statements, too.

Of course, Jaedyn Shaw had to mention the three words that went around the league and beyond. After the Kansas City win, she responded to the idea of Gotham being underdogs, and it became the rallying cry throughout the postseason. As such, she said it one final time at the celebration, telling everyone in attendance, "Underdogs my ass."

Moreover, Gotham was showered with confetti, in which some players decided to lie in, as they tend to do. The players took pictures with fans and celebrated with the trophy on the stage.

The big moment occurred when Mayor Eric Adams rewarded the team with the Key to the City. Players received individual keys, which they can add to their medals that they received on the night of the Championship. Plus, City Hall and a few other buildings would light up in Gotham colors.

It is great that the Bats finally got the recognition that they deserved. They never received this honor in 2023, so it is good that it occurred for this championship. It would have been great for them to have a full parade, but obviously, the time constraint limited them to this celebration. Plus, there is a huge parade that will be happening later this week for a little holiday called Thanksgiving.

Unquestionably, the celebration will continue at some point in 2026 when the new season begins. It is likely that Gotham FC will celebrate at Sports Illustrated Stadium when the first home game takes place.
