Gotham FC vs Houston Dash preview: Wrapping it up out west

Article image:Gotham FC vs Houston Dash preview: Wrapping it up out west

NJ/NY Gotham FC will wrap up their western road trip as they take on the Houston Dash. This is the final part of a three-game week, their last of the 2026 season. The Bats are currently on a five-game unbeaten run after losing their first game after the summer break to San Diego Wave FC back on July 4.

As mentioned, Gotham FC is in the middle of a good run of form in NWSL play, but has had a mixed bag of results against Houston in recent seasons. Since the beginning of the 2023 season, these two sides have played seven times, with the NJ/ NY side winning just three times, while losing and drawing this matchup twice each. They did get the better of Houston back earlier this season at home thanks to a goal from Jordynn Dudley that secured a 1-0 victory.

Despite struggles in recent years at home for the Dash that saw them finish with the worst home record in both 2023 and 2024, Houston has a 4-2-2 record at home this season. This has helped keep them afloat in the playoff race as they have managed just one victory away from home in 2026.

Another storyline to follow is the potential Dash debut for former Gotham player Khyah Harper. Harper just joined the Dash via a trade on Tuesday and could make her debut for her new club against her old one. So, here is a preview of Saturday's match.

Gotham FC vs Houston Dash preview

Date

The game will take place on Saturday, August 1.

Time

The fixture is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 PM ET, 7:00 PM local.

Location

The match will take place at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.

How to watch

The match will be streamed on NWSL+.

Weather

In a word, the best way to describe Saturday is hot. Temps will be 95 degrees at kickoff with a feels-like temperature of 106, only dropping to 92 and a feels-like temperature of 104 by the end. 9 mph winds and 60% cloud cover will offer some relief, but not much. Humidity will be on the lower end at 45-55% throughout the match. There is a 5% chance of rain. Sunset is set for 8:14 PM local time, which should fall either during the end of halftime or the early stages of the second half.

Injury report

Kayla Duran (knee - SEI), Denise O'Sullivan (knee), and Emily Sonnett (knee) are all out for the match against Houston.

Players to watch

Midge Purce has managed to not just score in back-to-back games, but do so in the opening two minutes of the match on both occasions. Those were Purce's first two goals of the 2026 NWSL season, and with the recent departure of Esther González, finding goals from other areas will be key to Gotham's success headed into the playoffs. This makes her someone to watch. Given the winger was subbed off at halftime of Wednesday's game against Bay FC, she may be in line to start on Saturday against Houston as well.

Houston rookie Kat Rader is off to a flying start to her pro career and is someone fans should keep an eye on. She currently leads all rookies with six goals this season and is most definitely one of, if not the front-runner for Rookie of the Year. In each game where she has managed to score, Houston is yet to lose this season, coming away with three wins and three draws.

Prediction

Playing in Houston with this level of heat, even at night, is never an easy task, but Gotham FC should be able to manage and come away with a 2-0 victory. Goals will come from Purce and Rose Lavelle, who will get back on the scoresheet after being held goalless for the last two games.
