In sports, underdog stories are always special in the hearts of fans, and it is no different with NJ/NY Gotham FC this season. Although Jaedyn Shaw might say otherwise about the underdog label. Still, after clinching a spot in the NWSL Playoffs and ending the season in eighth place, the Bats have become one of the most compelling storylines in the postseason. The team recently beat the top-seeded Kansas City Current to move on in the playoffs, and they will face the Orlando Pride in the semifinals.
Against the Current, Gotham FC really put their resilience and talent on display, giving fans not one, but two memorable goals. This led to the 2-1 victory in extra time. The important and decisive game-winning goal came deep into the dying embers of the match, with Katie Stengel striking a powerful shot to secure the win for the NJ/NY side. The qualities seen against Kansas City and the never-say-die attitude must be on display against Orlando.
Gotham FC already knows they have their work cut out for them against the Pride. While Barbra Banda remains out with her season-ending injury, the Bats will still have to deal with players like Marta, Haley McCutcheon, and Anna Moorhouse. Notably, McCutcheon scored in their quarterfinal match against Seattle Reign FC.
The good news is that Gotham has beaten the Pride this season. They won the road match in what was a vital win away from home at the time. It broke their winless streak, and eventually the win became a part of the unbeaten streak. However, Orlando had a stronger finish to the regular season compared to the NJ/NY side. Ideally, the Bats have put their inconsistent play throughout the year and the not-so-great end to the regular season behind them with the win over the Current.

Gotham FC will need everyone to step up again if they want to pull off another upset. The good news is that Shaw seems to be finding her best form over the last few weeks, so perhaps she can lead the Bats to another win.
