After a lackluster start to the season, NJ/NY Gotham FC has won their last two games in a convincing fashion. The Bats beat the North Carolina Courage at home 3-1, which was a little surprising since the fixture was expected to be a more even matchup. Then, the ladies beat Angel City FC 4-0 on the road, forcing the California side to suffer their first loss of the season.
The match against Angel City was a spectacle to watch. But Gotham FC did not have too much time to soak in the win since their three-game road trip continues with a midweek battle against Portland Thorns FC. The Oregon team sits in ninth place and is 1-2-2. They recently lost to Seattle Reign FC, so it is expected they will want to redeem themselves in front of the Portland fans.
Although over the last two years, Gotham has a 5-1-0 record against the Thorns, including the playoffs, where they won both matches in back-to-back years. This current record and the mix of the Bats’ recent success in the NWSL make it easy to be positive heading into the clash. At the same time, the minimum expectation was for the team to go 1-1-1 during the road trip. With one win already, fans would probably accept a draw if the ladies play extremely well and Portland makes it a challenging evening.
Of course, it would be great for Gotham FC to win and continue to score as they have over the last two games. If the Bats play similarly and beat Portland, then they will be back in the conversation of who the top teams are in the NWSL.
10:30 PM ET, with an expected start a little after

This is another late game, but the difference is that it is on a Tuesday. As such, it will be interesting to see who watches the game or finishes it, for Gotham FC and Portland will not end their clash until early Wednesday morning.
