Ron Gourlay is moving to secure a midfielder to add stability to Carlos Corberán’s team, with Guido Rodríguez the leading target.

According to AS, there is broad agreement that the Argentine, who spent the final six months of last season at Mestalla, should be the cornerstone of the project.

Gourlay has been in talks with the player’s representatives for weeks and Valencia, aware of rival interest, have made a strong play. The offer is a two-year contract with an optional third, seen as appropriate for a 32-year-old.

Rodríguez and his agent are evaluating the proposal but want improved salary and greater security, hoping to make the third year guaranteed. They are also listening to other offers.

The midfielder appreciates the club’s effort yet is wary of making the wrong choice. Valencia have outlined a plan for Nou Mestalla to debut with European competition at the start of the 2027-28 season.
