Grady Diangana remains on the lookout for a new club after leaving West Brom, and he could be a good fit for Birmingham, Norwich and Sheffield United.
Grady Diangana remains without a club after leaving West Brom in the summer, which ended his six-year stay at The Hawthorns.
The winger had a mixed time with the Baggies, after initially starring on loan with Albion under Slaven Bilic as the side won promotion to the Premier League.
In truth, he failed to hit the same heights again, although there were some excellent moments over the years, with Diangana a joy to watch at times with his pace, skill and direct style, but he struggled to find his best form on a consistent basis before he left after his contract expired.
Nevertheless, at 27, Diangana should still have a lot to offer, and you can be sure that clubs are tempted by the challenge of getting the DR Congo international back to his previous levels.
If that were to happen, Diangana could be a standout performer in the Championship, so he could be a low-risk move for clubs considering he is available on a free transfer.
With that in mind, we look at THREE clubs who could benefit from Diangana…
Birmingham are a club on the rise under their ambitious US owners, and they are targeting promotion to the Premier League this season, so the project will certainly appeal to Diangana.
Despite the quality in their ranks, Chris Davies’ squad is still lacking wide players, so Diangana, who can play down either flank, would be a welcome addition in that sense.
The former Spurs coach could be exactly what Diangana needs to get back to his best, and the attacking, possession-based approach that Blues adopt is ideally suited to the left-footer, who could excel with the pace and movement that they have in the final third.
Another club who will hope to be in the promotion hunt this season, Norwich have lost the influential Borja Sainz, so they are looking for attacking players who can add pace and unpredictability, which is Diangana’s game.
The funds they have brought in from Sainz’s sale, and with Josh Sargent likely to follow, mean the Canaries would be in a position to offer an attractive financial package to Diangana, and he could easily become an important figure under Liam Manning, who is another coach that has a reputation for developing youngsters.
Manning is known to be tactically flexible, and Diangana’s ability to play down either flank, or even centrally, means he would surely appeal, and he would add depth and quality to Norwich’s ranks ahead of the new season.
Ruben Selles is the new man in charge at Sheffield United, and he will be looking to make a few tweaks to the squad as they try to push for promotion once again.
With attacking loanees Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Ben Brereton Diaz having returned to their parent clubs this summer, it would be no surprise if the Blades were still seeking attacking reinforcements even after the arrival of Louie Barry.
FLW exclusively revealed that Sheffield United are targeting free agents this summer, so a swoop for Diangana would make a lot of sense, and Selles is another coach who could give him the individual mentoring to take his game to the next level.
